Making the jump from protecting the mouth to protecting the head was easy for Dr. Bob Smith, the father of Smith goggles and sunglasses. Aside from having an inherent desire to keep vital parts safe from the world outside the mouth, Smith wanted to get better eye protection while he was skiing. Rather than sit around and wait for someone else to do it though, he created his own, in his kitchen with dental tools. Thus was born the first Thermal Lens goggle, with a sealed double lens and breathable vent foam. And in 1965, after spending time skiing and trading his new product for lift tickets, Smith Optics Inc. was born.

In its relatively young lifetime, Smith has captured a huge share of the market for eyewear, starting with only four polarized styles in the 1980s. Fast-forward to 1995 when the Slider 01 was born, the first shade with interchangeable lenses. The design took off faster than fireworks, and the growth hasn't stopped.

For 2007, Smith lets loose the new Interlock Interchangeable system, an innovation to the interchangeable idea. With a twist of a temple, the frame 'opens' up and - presto! - you easily switch your lens.

Be sure to check out the goggles of course, and their line of helmets. If you have any questions, please drop us an email or call!
