In August 1938, Lord Rupert Edward Cecil Iveagh, an
English nobleman, founded Societ Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana
Anonima (Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo mountain area)
- or S.C.A.R.P.A. He was impressed with the local small craft firms that
processed leather and hides and wanted to bring them together to establish
a level of excellence that could reach beyond the world of Asolo. By
chance, in 1942, S.C.A.R.P.A. took on a new employee, Luigi Parisotto,
one of seven brothers, whose desire was to learn the art of shoemaking.
After a stint in the military, in 1951Luigi and his brother Francesco pursued
their own dreams of artisinal shoemaking and created the San Giorgio
trademark. They made shoes catering to a population of regional workers, farmers,
working class folk who needed reliable, sturdy, comfortable footwear. The boys
were eventually making 12-15 pairs of shoes per day and establishing what would
become a long-standing reputation of excellence. Our research can't quite pin
down when the Parisotto family took over SCARPA from the notable Englishman,
but they have been involved for 50 years, bringing quality footwear to outdoor
adventurers around the world.
The Alpineer and its sister sites - TelemarkSki.com and ATSkis.com -
are pleased to represent SCARPA's
entire line of boots.
